At the October 16th Waukegan City Council meeting, Alderman Victor Felix addressed long-standing community rumors about his political ambitions.
Felix was sworn in as Waukegan’s 4th Ward Alderman after defeating Alderman Roudell Kirkwood in the Democratic Primary election in February. Kirkwood was running for re-election after his July 2022 indictment for dozens of felonies for forgery, wire fraud, and official misconduct. Waukegan Watch previously covered Kirkwood’s criminal indictments this past summer.
After several meetings in which Alderman Felix has been subject to the public questioning his future political ambitions, specifically that he wants to challenge incumbent Clerk Janet Kilkelly in 2025, Felix seemingly had enough of the rumors. He addressed the speculation directly during his aldermanic time at the end of the City Council meeting.
Felix stated, “There is a rumor that I am running for City Clerk. That is not true, and I don’t even understand why people are wasting their time spreading that rumor. I am not running for anything else.”
Alderman Felix went on to state that people are welcome to contact him or the City staff if they hear rumors about City business and to ignore social media, which only serves to spread rumors.
Waukegan Watch is not yet aware of whether the incumbent clerk, Janet Kilkelly, will run for re-election. Sources close to City Hall remain curious about why Clerk Kilkelly’s office was issued a search warrant in January 2023. Following that search warrant, Clerk Kilkelly posted the video below to her social media account and said she had nothing to hide.
